The program serves girls ages 2-18 at 15 sites across Greater Cincinnati. Our dancers are from low-income families and sometimes referred from homeless shelters. Female volunteers with or without any ballet experience or knowledge are needed. That includes dance instructors, as well as volunteers to work with the girls, and help with performances.
Tutoring has the power to boost children’s academic scores, create strong readers and improve confidence. But our volunteers become so much more than tutors. They become mentors, friends and positive role models that change the lives of children beyond the classroom.
Taylor Academy does not have an after school program at this time. We would love to provide extracurricular activities for students. The Soaring Hawks Foundation would even designate some funds for supplies. Physical activities such as soccer which takes place after school, once a week, will operate this school year entirely by volunteers.
Our sets are a big part of what makes our productions as good as – and even better than – many professional theaters. At the shelter, our cats need daily care and socialization, including cleaning their rooms, feeding, petting and socializing them. The phone operator answers incoming phone calls, returns general phone messages, and connects callers with community resources as needed. Ability to operate phones and interact with callers are necessary. Computer skills are not needed.
Crisis Prevention Advocates work on the behalf of the clients we serve to prevent eviction or disconnection of utilities primarily through direct financial aid. Our Crisis Prevention Advocates also complete intake interviews with new or returning clients to gather information about their household.
The front desk volunteers are the first volunteer the client meets!
